When it comes to Trucking, Where does a prospective driver start?
Here are 5 Truck Driving careers to think about. After reading this you will have a better
understanding of the different pathways you can take in trucking.
1. Regional Truck Driver
A Regional Truck Driver typically operates within a specific geographical region & typically covers a few states.
→ We will use me as an Example:
I'm a Regional Truck Driver and I drive in
Washington
Idaho
Montana
Oregon
2. Over the Road Truck Driver
An Over the Road Truck Drive, Also known as OTR will usually travel the entire country.
It's not uncommon for OTR drivers to spend weeks or even months out on the road without going home.
→ Example:
Some companies will run for 14 days (2 weeks) and only receive 2-3 Days of home time
3. Local Truck Driver
Local Truck Drivers will typically be able to get home on the same day. These drivers often work long hours and can look something like 2:00am - 3:00pm. Not exactly for the everyday trucker.

4. Tanker Truck Driver
A Tanker Truck Driver is a Trucker who hauls gasses or liquids in small or large tanker trucks. Tankers can be home daily and they can travel throughout the entire country. It just depends on the company.

5. Dry Van Truck Driver
A Dry Van Truck Driver is the most commonly used method for transporting goods. Many companies use dry vans to transport their freight
